Gamification of learning can be defined as the concept of applying game-design thinking to non-game applications. It is fast emerging as an effective technique to engage learners which maximize enjoyment and engagement through capturing the interest of learners and inspiring them to continue learningIt helps in creating an effective learning system that enables learners to rehearse real-life scenarios and challenges in a safe environment by using video game design and game elements. But Gamification is not merely about just playing games.

According to Wikipedia, “Gamification techniques strive to leverage people’s natural desires for socializing, learning, mastery, competition, achievement, status, self-expression, altruism, or closure.

Various organizations think that as compared to the cost and time needed for development of gamified version of course, it’s better to go with formal learning programs. So now question arises that is gamification of learning truly beneficial? Today we are discussing the benefits of Gamification for learners and how the experience of learning (recall and retention) can be enhanced through Gamification.

1. Better learning experience and environment:

A good gamification strategy including visuals, 3’D effects and sound. Through visuals and animation, the learning experience becomes fun and entertaining. It provides an effective, informal learning environment and helps learners practice real-life situations and challenges in a familiar environment. The high, the level of engagement, better will be the recall and retention.


2. Anticipate behavior changes and evokes friendly competition:

Gamification can drive strong behavioral change especially when combined with visuals and repetitive watching videos, participating in question–answer sessions and discussions. It induces a friendly competition between learners by providing challenges and in return rewards points to them. Points, badges, and leaderboards would surely make training awesome. They get merits based on performance.

3. Provides learners sense of achievement and getting Instant feedback:

Overall gamification in learning removes boredom of learning. Now these techniques are espoused by companies as well to improve skills of worker and make them feel more involved.
